Student Basic Communication Board and Visual Supports Digital Download

I designed these boards as basic communication boards to use with students who need visual supports for communication. These are considered low tech augmentative and alternative (AAC) communication.

This is a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD. Nothing will ship to you. 

What's included

• Basic communication board: This can be used and trialed if the student doesn’t have any other supports in place yet. It covers basic needs at school and more. Full page size (horizontal orientation). 

• Lanyard/Mini Communication visuals: These boards were designed to be a quick way to support communication on the go.Included: The first one is basic communication with some core words and basic responses/needs. The second is a mini “I feel, I need” board. The third is a visual board for actions and places at school. The fourth board is for basic positional words, describing, and color choices. 

  I recommend laminating and putting them on a ring to easily flip between the board.  You can use these to model communication or let the students point for communication. In any visual system, teaching and modeling is key!

• Group rules visuals: I use these as a behavior visual support during group sessions/activities. Full size and lanyard size

• Lightning Bolt  Unexpected symbols: When something different occurs in the schedule (assembly, fire drill, lockdown drill, etc…) I use the lightning bolt system.I show  the student the unexpected symbol. (I have pre-taught my students that lightning is unexpected and comes out of no where but things eventually go back to normal) Full size Page 5, lanyard size Page 6. 

Please note: These boards are not intended to replace communication supports in place or recommendations by speech pathologists, parents, or special education teachers. These are basic boards that were designed to be used in a school setting.

To use: Students can point to the picture symbols on the board if the need support with communicating wants and needs. Modeling (showing) may be needed to help the student learn the symbols.

I also included some group rules visuals, these are for the teacher/therapist to point to when an expected behavior is needed.
