Tips for Tips for educators and parents: This deck was designed to develop fundamental compare and contrast skills in young learners. While primarily intended for practice, these cards are also effective for teaching the concepts using the compare/contrast review card. Featuring real photos that children can easily relate to, these cards are versatile and can be used by parents, teachers, or therapists. They can be seamlessly integrated into lessons or adapted to fit individual teaching styles. Intended for elementary aged students (kindergarten and up).

These cards are also great for targeting the following skills:

• Naming categories
• Defining and describing
• Object identification
• Naming object functions
• Sentence prompts (example: Write a sentence that has both of these words)
• Carryover skills for articulation and fluency.

How to use:

Start by explaining compare and contrast with the review card.  Introduce the compare/contrast visuals & symbols so students are familiar with their meaning. Ask the student how the two objects are alike and different. Start by requesting at least one difference and one similarity. Increase the level of difficulty by requesting multiple similarities/differences. Use the included prompts at the bottom of the card if needed. Use the defining and describing visuals on the review card if the student needs a visual cue. Talk about the category, features, parts, function, and location of the objects.
