I created these art activity pages for speech therapy to keep students engaged. Double Dotting Speech is unique because I incorporated two “dotting” tasks for this activity. First connect the dots and then dot the pictures! It is great for groups because the other students will have plenty to work on (coloring, connecting the dots, dotting) while you work with the other students. I have my students color the eggs in between turns (optional). Designed for an elementary caseload (some pages can be used with middle schoolers depending on skill and interest level).
I have found that incorporating art into speech sessions can be a great way to encourage carry over skills. When kids make something it creates the “look what I made” mentality which increases the likelihood they will show a caregiver or teacher later. I included a caregiver note on the bottom of these pages that encourages home review/practice.
These are no prep and great for busy weeks when you don’t have a lot of time to plan. You could also send these as homework.
Materials needed: bingo dotters, crayons/markers, black marker or pencil.
First I have the students connect the dots and we review the words on the egg that we will be practicing (this is a great step if your student needs auditory bombardment for articulation). If it is a language task, I use this time to remind them of the concept we are working on. Next, if I am in a group, I will start working with one student and ask the other students to start coloring in their eggs. The last step is practicing the targets and dotting them with a bingo dotter. For the articulation pages, I purposely made the circles big, requiring multiple dots per circle. I have my students practice the words multiple times as they fill up the circle (the therapist will determine the number of trials per word).
Tip: A black marker works best for the dot-to-dot but you may need to use a pencil with younger students.
