Vocabulary Roll with Tier 2 Words
for 2nd-6th grade (you may use it with other grades depending on skill level).
There are separate files that contain Tier 2 vocabulary words for 1st through 6th grade (I included the first grade pack because some of my students needs to start with lower level words when we begin this instruction).

This product was designed to be a fun way to practice vocabulary. The word choices are Tier 2 vocabulary words by grade level. Tier 2 vocabulary words are considered academic words that a student will encounter in all subject areas. They are words that are important for comprehension skills. I also included a fill-able blank template to customize the words to your lesson. There are 30 words per grade level included in this download.

To use: The student will check if they have heard the word before or not before they roll. The student will then roll a dice and follow the directions at the top of the page. The different directions they could roll are: draw a picture, write a sentence, write an antonym, write a synonym, write the definition, and free choice.

If your student checked [no] (they haven’t heard the word before), you may need to teach them the word by providing examples. I sometimes will do this and have them guess the definition based on context clues.

Provide the student access to a dictionary or thesaurus (book or digital)  during this activity.

Please note: This file is delivered in a zipped file (multiple files compressed into one). You must unzip the file before you can access the documents: 

To unzip on a Mac:

  1. Double click the zipped file.
  2. The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.
  3. Access the extracted files by clicking the appropriate icons.
  4. You can drag them into a file on your computer or add them to your Google Drive or Dropbox.

To unzip on a PC:

  1. Double-click the zip file you want to unzip OR right-click to select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
  2. The zip file will open a folder, showing you the individual files inside.
  3. Select all the files and drag them out of the folder to another location on your computer.
