Shark-ulation! ~ Speech Therapy Game Companion for ANY Shark Game

 I originally created this resource to go with the shaking shark game. I was alerted by a user that this game is really hard to find and that there are other great shark games that she would like to use this resource with. I added a generic set of shark mats for this purpose! When you purchase this resource, you will get it all! These mats are also great to use with mini shark toys or play dough!

 It is a commonly known fact that speech therapists use popular board games to make therapy fun for their students. I looked at all of my games and decided that I needed a way to make playing them more directly therapeutic! This is how all of my game companions were born! I hope you enjoy this latest edition! (Please note: the game is not included, must be purchased separately).

 What’s Included in the original set that goes with the shaking shark game (color only):

► Articulation Mats for the following phonemes in initial, medial, final, and mixed positions: k, g, f, l, s, sh, ch, j, th

 What’s Included in the generic set that goes with ANY shark game (color and black & white)

Initial/final p/b/m (for bilabials and final consonants), final t, d, n (for final consonants), initial/medial/final: k, g, f, v, l, s, z, sh, ch, th, lblends, , sblends (sp, st, sm, sn, sk, sl, sw, mixed), pre-vocalic r, er, or, ar, air, ear, & rblends. I also included blank open-ended pages. These are great to use with the game or as articulation mats for your jungle theme!

 Assembly: Print and go! You can laminate the boards or place them in page protectors for durability.

 How to play: Set up the game per directions in the box. The shark’s mouth will be loaded with the anchor, wheel, boot, treasure chest, and fish bone pieces. You will turn the fin of the shark to activate the game.

• The students will try to hook the objects out of the shark’s mouth with their fishing hook before time runs out.

• After the shark’s mouth snaps shut, the round is finished. Have the students place the pieces they hooked on their Shark-ulation mats over the matching pieces.

• The students will then practice the target word on the mat a pre-determined amount of times (therapist discretion).

• Keep going until all of the pieces are out of the shark’s mouth (do not put the objects back in between turns).

• At the end of the game I have the students drill each word on the mat one more time.

• Optional: Use the score card to keep track of points, each object is worth a set amount of points (I laminate mine and use with dry-erase marker).

Variations: If you don’t have the game you could use as drill mats: Have the student roll a die and practice the words that number of times. Tell the students they are trying to fill up their whole mat before the session is over. Cover up the circles with play-dough, bingo chips, or checkers!

 Please note: This file will be delivered in a zipped compressed file (it contains 4 files for the different versions described above and building cards). 

To unzip on a Mac:

1. Double click the zipped file.
2. The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.
3. Access the extracted files by clicking the appropriate icons.
4. You can drag them into a file on your computer or add them to your Google Drive or Dropbox.

To unzip on a PC:

1. Double-click the zip file you want to unzip OR right-click to select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
2. The zip file will open a folder, showing you the individual files inside.
3. Select all the files and drag them out of the folder to another location on your computer.
