Spooky Speech Brew ~ Articulation Speech Therapy Activity
Spooky Speech Brew ~ Articulation Speech Therapy Activity
This activity was designed to be a simple, no-prep activity to target articulation in a Halloween theme. It is also a GREAT way to encourage home practice because when completing coloring pages like t his it creates the “look what I made” mentality which increases the likelihood that the student will show their caregiver and review. A quick caregiver note is included on the side of the page.
How to use: The therapist can use at their discretion. How I use it: I have the students dot or color their articulation words and practice them (the therapist can determine the number of trials per words or use a dice!). After that we read the Spooky Speech Brew Recipe for some carry over practice or modeling. I then have my students circle the words in the cauldron that they heard in the recipe and practice those words again (this helps get high trials during the session). If you are working in a group, have the other students color the cauldron and brew while they wait for their turn (I like coloring the brew green!).
My hope is that this will encourage the students to show their parents and review their targets, plus tell them all about the fun coloring activity they made.
This version includes the following sounds: Initial/medial/fina/mixed: k, g, f, v, l, s, z, sh, ch, th, lblends (initial/medial), initial sblends (sp, st, sm, sn, sk, sl, sw, mixed), final sblends; pre-vocalic r, er, or, ar, air, ear, & rblends (initial/final); complex clusters. I also included blank open-ended pages (12 targets on each page).
Tips to use with language/vocabulary targets. Pick any page: Describe or define each object, discuss the categories of the objects, compare/contrast the targets. Following directions: Give the student 1 and/or 2 step directions of which objects to color (color an animal and then color a plant, etc.).
Open ended tip: Use the blank version to draw spooky brew items (frog legs, eye balls, bat wings, etc.) and have the students write a spooky brew recipe.
Use this resource as a companion to witch themed books or games. Make it fun and get witch fingers to point to the target words
