Do you need an engaging articulation activity to mix up your speech sessions? Grab an ink pad and this resource! It is an activity that keeps students busy during practice. My students love making thumbprint art and yours will too! No Prep and Ink Friendly! Perfect for holiday lesson plans!

Please note: This download contains a zipped file with two files: 
  • Holiday Lights (for a non-Christmas theme)
  • Christmas Lights
Each file contains following sounds: initial/final: p, b, m; final: n, t, d; initial/medial/final: k, g, f, v, l, s, z, ch, j, th, sh; pre-vocalic r; vocalic r (er, ar, or, air, ear, ire); rblends; lblends; sblends (separate mats for sp, st, sm, sn, sk, sl, sw, mixed). I also included an open-ended page.  First practice, then make a string of holiday lights. 

→ Please note: There are 12 target words on each page (2 of each, totaling 24 words).

Materials Needed: Washable Ink pad or paint (multicolor is recommended), thumbprint page, wet wipes

Tip: Keep wet wipes near by to wipe thumbs in between turns. 

Optional Assembly: You can also place in a sheet protector or laminate to use with play dough.

To use: The student will practice the word and then make a thumbprint on the oval over the word (one of the lights). The student will place their thumb on a washable ink pad and then stamp it on the oval. Keep going until the lights are finished. If you are working in a group. Use the blank template as a craft or reinforcer with any activity. 

Variations:
Use washable paint instead of ink
Use play dough to smash to make the lights. 
Use bingo chips to place over the lights. 
Use bingo dotters

  1. Double click the zipped file.
  2. The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.
  3. Access the extracted files by clicking the appropriate icons.
  4. You can drag them into a file on your computer or add them to your Google Drive or Dropbox.

To unzip on a PC:

  1. Double-click the zip file you want to unzip OR right-click to select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
  2. The zip file will open a folder, showing you the individual files inside.
  3. Select all the files and drag them out of the folder to another location on your computer.
